Empaths have now been scientifically proven to be more prone to anxiety, especially social anxiety, as well as depression, and some even diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder. How many of you can feel some level of connection with that statement? To be an Empath means you have the intuitive ability to interpret or feel someone else's emotions. However, while interpreting these outward emotions, it’s very easy to take them on yourself and let them affect you negatively within. |
Being Empathic means you have an AMAZING and truly powerful gift, the ability to feel what other people feel and use that emotion for positive outcomes. This can help you become a better communicator, a jumping into the thick of it proactive humanitarian, proficient at creativity and being able to see beyond what most others can to see fantastic results in your chosen field or simply support you in being a person who with compassion naturally understands others needs and feelings in profound ways.
All gifts that we possess as humans come with great responsibility to ourselves. Being an Empath is no different.
So, what’s your responsibility as an Empath? To move through, recognize or have tools to understand and remove the emotion that gets trapped or held onto in your body.
Since we were children most of us were told to stop being so sensitive, to stop crying, to get over it, to be quiet or even to sit still. When we expressed our emotions in ways in which we sometimes couldn't control, we were told to cut it out or toughen up. Years of this behavior leads to us stifling our natural expression, and in time we become lost, alone and disconnected from our True Selves.
While everyone needs to express their Emotions in some way or another, Empaths have a much greater responsibility on their shoulders than others? Why? Well, they aren’t just processing their emotions, they are trying to process others emotions as well.
As an Empath, here are several big tips which will truly support you in preventing anxiety and depression, as well as make great progress in living a happy, healthy & fulfilling life.
FRESH AIR AND GROUNDING
It's truly amazing as an Empath myself, to know that just 20 mins outside can make a HUGE impact on my day in the most productive and cleansing ways.
To find the time to ground yourself to the earth, to breathe in some fresh air and the ability to move my body, knowing full well that my mind and body will thrive from the benefits. I know, I say exercise and you cringe with the thought....And quite frankly I'd do the same. BUT to push myself out that door when I'm feeling stuck, my head has far to much monkey mind for it's own good, I'm building up a pattern of resistance and day by day it's getting stronger and the black hole I'm diving into is getting deeper and blacker I know it's only me that can do something about shifting this dormant icky energy that is sitting within. So if not daily, when you are feeling like life is getting tough (before you make it to the black hole of nasty mind chatter) take your gorgeous self out for a short walk, sit by the sea or a lake but get that body moving and allow yourself the bliss of sitting in your OWN energy for as long as possible.
RELEASEMENT OF EMOTION
Here's the thing, Resistance can = Repressed Emotions can = And Chaos of the Mind can = Anxiety and/or Depression. You may not have all of these at once, but resistance and repressed emotions are a sure sign of a nasty downward spiral.
Resistance is the opposite of growth (now imagine how many people in the world are dealing with this that may surround you in everyday situations, that you could very well pick up on, without even realizing it. Not all resistance and emotion are clearly visible, but their energy speaks volumes if you take the time to see it/hear it or feel it, and how can you possibly do this if you are clogged of emotion already and no longer have the clarity to see/feel or hear it?). Every time you grow/heal or learn a lesson as an Empath, you begin to understand your own energy, your own needs, and your own boundaries, you are defeating resistance, every time you are staying stagnant within habits you are unable to become aware of what is happening, your mind is clouded, your mind clutter gets larger and the ability to transform is a distant dream, resistance is winning.
The more repressed your emotions are within the more you are dealing and contending with (life can get pretty clouded/foggy and stagnant in this space, I'm not sure I've met anyone who loves being there for long), the much greater likelihood that you’ll be dealing with anxiety, depression or a big one for Empaths segregating yourselves from the world because somehow it just seems easier.
So the Intuitive Ninja is here to tell you that there is a way through it! And the way through it, is to let it all out. Find a quiet space or just somewhere alone and allow all that built up emotion to seep from every crack and cell in your body. Cry like you've never cried before, for absolutely no reason at all. Scream, punch a pillow. Laugh till you almost pee your pants or your face hurts from smiling too much. Sing and Dance till your body is a buzz with new energy. Get angry!!! Whatever you do to release that emotion do it in a way that feels good and fitting to your needs. Me well it's generally when I vege in front of the TV and cry and any little thing that has a hint of sadness in it, it could be an ad, it could be a movie.....okay almost anything sets me off lol.
SELF AWARENESS
Okay, so this is an easy one for you and quite possibly the one that holds the most value to recognizing patterns and behaviors about yourself. Once you become aware it's amazing how quickly you are able to move through certain situations and quite possibly never have to repeat a reoccurring pattern or behavior again. AWARENESS is the KEY!!!
Every time you are feeling emotional, wanting to head towards a bottle of whatever you can get your hands on, put that nervous cigarette in your mouth or shop till ya drop. Ask yourself are you looking for a band-aid for whatever is going on in your life at that moment. Even me the Intuitive Ninja knows the moment I start craving whiskey, I need to stop and ask myself... Do I REALLY want a drink or am I just trying to cover up an emotion or a struggle that I just want to brush under the rug rather than deal with?
10 x out of 10 it's my band-aid. What's your band-aid? Do you know what it is? Are you aware that it's even a band-aid yet?
Once you discover what it is you have become aware! That is FANTASTIC, because now you can deal with the problem instead of saving it for a rainy day, like tomorrow or the next day or every day after that, because no matter how hard we try it will keep coming back until we learn the lesson and deal with it.
So by finding out what your band-aids are, then you begin to start to understand your own needs, desires and what happens when YOU struggle. The biggest thing about this is, when I mastered it, it's amazing how quickly I could pick up on other people's energy becoming attached to my own, because I knew my own behaviors and there's did NOT feel anything like my own. One of the biggest questions I get from my clients, Empath Mentoring Students, and Highly Sensitive people alike is "How do I know what's mine"? Well here's the answer and if practiced it's amazing how quickly you will master this too.
The bonus about using these three top tips as often as needed, you'll stop fighting that resistance, master your emotion, unlock the key to awareness of self and it will make it harder to seep back into that black hole of anxiety, depression or monkey mind.
